Home Visits

If you are able to get to the surgery to see your doctor please do so. Home visits are only for those patients who are too ill to visit the surgery, not for those for whom it is inconvenient.

We do not routinely visit as we can offer far more comprehensive care at the surgery. However, if, for medical reasons, you are unable to get to the surgery, please ring as soon after 08.00am as you can in order to allow the GPs to plan their visits.  Please note that the GP may phone back for more information or ask a nurse to visit if appropriate.

GP Visit is not usual

In most cases, to visit the following would not be clinically indicated

  • Common Symptoms of childhood
  • fevers
  • cold
  • cough
  • earache
  • headache
  • diarrhoea/vomiting
  • abdominal pain (most cases of)

These patients are usually well enough to travel by car. It is not harmful to take a child with a fever outside. These children may not be fit to travel by bus or to walk, but car transport is generally available from friends, relatives or taxi companies. We regret that the surgery cannot arrange transport to the surgery.

Adults with common problems, such as cough, sore throat, influenza, back pain and abdominal pain are also readily transportable to the surgery.

Common problems in the elderly, such as poor mobility, joint pain, and general malaise would also best be managed in the surgery.

The exception to this rule would be the truly bed-bound.

Having no transport is NOT a reason to request a home visit - we expect patients to use public transport.

Dental Problems

If you are suffering from dental pain, please do NOT make an appointment to see a Doctor. You will need to be seen by your Dentist.  If you have problems contacting your own Dentist, please contact:

Gwent Dental Helpline

01633 744387 Monday to Friday 9.00am until 4.00pm

Patients who have dental pain but are not registered with a dentist will be able to obtain a dental appointment via the Helpline.  Also the Helpline will advise patients on those dental practices taking on NHS patients in the Gwent area.

If you need emergency care for dental pain outside of these times, please call the above telephone number for advice.
